Solar Energy and Bangladesh

Solar energy may be a good alternative to meet the present demand of electricity. In rural area in household and small consumer such as community clinic, village market and water pump may be derived by the solar energy. To encourage the solar energy in the office of Prime Minister of Bangladesh establishes solar plant, which meet the full demand of electricity. Bangladesh has set up a solar panel industries in country, which annual capacity is around 10MW only; it’s too small but first attempted to do such a challenging job. Few companies are working to provide solar energy to the villages in Bangladesh like Grameen Sakti. The companies are also interested to extend the service to the city dwellers. A problem of solar energy is at the front end of installation requires a large amount of money, which is an extra burden for rural people. In this situation, government of Bangladesh providing a long term loan to the solar panel provider company. They are providing at 15% down payment and 20 years for rest of payment in an installment in every month. 90% of the service holders are not satisfied at all.

Atomic Energy and Bangladesh

Atomic Energy may be a solution for present energy crisis in Bangladesh. Recently Bangladesh is facing serious energy crisis. There is a huge gap between demand and supply. The actual demand of electricity is 5500MW (Mega ward)-6500MW (Mega watts) during the peak and off-peak period, where as the supply is 3900MW (Mega ward)-4500MW (Mega ward). But Bangladesh has electricity production capability above 5000MW. There are two reasons not to reach full production, one is old power plant and another is gas crisis. The daily gas demand 2.1TCF (Trillion Cubic feet), where as the supply is nearly 1.8 TCF (Trillion Cubic feet), the production of industries are greatly hampering for electricity and gas. Some of the industries set up are ready to go production, but they are unable to go production due to connection of gas and electricity. In 2012 the actual demand will be nearly 7000MW-8000MW if the current economic growth of the country sustain. The current government of Bangladesh is very sincere about this issue. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina recently visited Russia and signed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up 2000MW(Mega Watts) of electricity from atomic power plant with the government of Russia. Bangladesh is also encouraging private entrepreneur to set up power plant to meet the present demand. The government also takes initiative to strengthen Petro-Bangla and BAPEX (Bangladesh Petroleum exploration and Production Company limited) to explore new gas field and pick up gas from there.

Parliament of Bangladesh

Parliament of Bangladesh
The Parliament of Bangladesh is a unicameral legislature consisting of 300 members. They are directly elected from an equal number of territorial constituencies, which is one from each constituency, on the basis of adult franchise. Earlier there used to be 30 seats reserved for women who were elected by the directly elected Members. This provision in the Constitution for the reservation of seats for women was a transitory one. The 7th Parliament was the last Parliament to have this reservation. With the exception of the first Parliament, which had 15 reserved seats for women, and the fourth Parliament, which had no such reservation, all previous Parliaments (before 8th Parliament) of Bangladesh had included the 30 reserved seats. In the 8th Parliament the Constitution (Fourteenth Amendment) Act, 2004 was passed by the Parliament on May 2004 by which the following provision was inserted in the constitution of Bangladesh:

Art. 65(3) "Until the dissolution of Parliament occurring next after the expiration of the period of ten years beginning from the date of the first meeting of the Parliament next after the Parliament in existence at the time of the commencement of the Constitution (Fourteenth Amendment) Act. 2004, there shall be reserved forty five seats exclusively for women members and they will be elected by the aforesaid members in accordance with law on the basis of procedure of proportional representation in the Parliament through single transferable vote:".

This reservation of seats in favor of women did not disqualify them from being candidates in the general election."
The Constitution of Bangladesh in its two texts, Bengali and English, gives the unicameral legislature the name of 'Jatiyo Shangshad' in Bengali and 'House of the Nation' in English. However, the term 'House of the Nation' is rarely used. Rather the one-word nomenclature, 'Parliament', has gained currency, probably because the term 'House of the Nation' is used only once in the Constitution. Many do not know that the Constitution contemplates Parliament to be known in English as 'House of the Nation'.Source: National Web Portal of Bangladesh
